Learning on the Fly

I pride myself on my ability to learn and adapt quickly. Whether it’s CAD software, a new lighting console, or unconventional uses for gaff tape, I am willing to learn and do anything possible to realize the full potential of stage lighting.

Embracing The Unconventional

Much of my work focuses finding new and creative ways to utilize light. In October 2022 I was the lighting designer for James Madison University’s production of Kaleidoscope, a sci-fi piece which was produced with a $500 budget.

In order to light the astronauts and fulfill the high concept nature of the show, I created several face lights using string lights, metal wire, and some old sunglasses. Additionally to represent the vastness of space I created custom gobos with black foil to project stars around the space. Ultimately lighting was able to successfully represent the environment of the story, while only; utilizing 1/5 of the budget.
