I’ve been fascinated by stage lighting since the age of 15. While my primary work has been in the theatre, my passion for stage lighting extends to concerts, festivals, dance, and more. Whether as a designer or electrician I love bringing a show to life. Feel free to reach out to learn more.
Recently, I was the lighting designer for James Madison University’s production of Small Mouth Sounds by Bess Wohl.
“It’s not about blasting the space with light, it’s about creating an island in the dark.”
-Scott Wahl, My Mentor
Scott said this to me while I was designing a show in high school and it has stuck with me ever since. My design philosophy centers on the ephemeral nature of light, piercing the darkness to illuminate a story. I often find light as a character in a story, as much a piece of the emotional landscape as any aspect of the story. I believe that as with any character, light can be in the forefront or more in the background. As Scott once also said to me, “be bold when appropriate and sublte always”.
